Aim
The aim of the educational programme is to maximize independence, productivity and produce learners who are well adjusted to themselves and the community.
Curriculum
The school follows a curriculum that is adapted from the National Curriculum Statements. Our focus is on Life skills, Functional Literacy and Functional Numeracy.
Ages
Learners enter school at the age of 6 and leave at the age of 18 for protective workshops, sheltered employment or where possible, employment in the open labour market.
At Mary Harding School we aim to empower learners through constant personal recognition and through the development and maintenance of the skills. Furthermore, we aim to realize the learners’ full potential through the effective use of available physical and human resources
Our Mission Statement
To develop mature toileting / independent or regularly timed toileting in order for learners to remain hygienically clean both at home and at school
To improve basic skills which would include:
- Being aware of self and the environment
- Sitting alone with materials during a group activity
- To increase expressive and receptive language skills of learners which would include the use of alternative communicative methods
- To develop learners’ self-confidence and self-image
- To develop critical life skills that would enable each learner to participate as independently as possible in society
- To develop learners who would become responsible citizens
